9.1 Alternative Written PresentationsVersion 1.2 November 2016 (Previous Version) Are we supposed to take the conclusions listed herein as the gospel truth? If they are based on reason and evidence why state them so dogmatically? Can we say the same thing, to reach the same outcome, another way? There are an infinite number of ways in which we can express what is reasonable. We must seek and encourage alternative ways of looking at things and other ways of summarizing these beliefs. We can begin working on artistic expressions of them. For example: 9.1.1 A two page summary of the ‘Diamond’ level global beliefs and core values, captures the essence of our conclusions in each knowledge domain. Perhaps they look a bit like the religious creeds, but it is still reasonable to profess what we currently, tentatively believe, based on reason and the evidence. more For a printable PDF version click here. 9.1.3 In Poetry: a set of haiku called MahaMaya. Haiku is a form of poetry that originated in Japan. Each verse has 3 lines, the first of 5 syllables, the second of 7, and the third of 5. Maha means greater (as in Mahayana, the greater vehicle, the more popular variety of Buddhism) and maya refers to the Hindu concept of the illusion of classification. It’s a humorous title, to acknowledge that we need to be careful of hubris, of arrogantly thinking we know it all when we don’t. more For a printable PDF version click here. If you can improve on these haiku please send us your suggestions – click on ‘feedback’ above, or enter comments below. (Earlier versions can be found here.) 9.1.4 A one page summary of the ‘gold’ conclusions (the ‘Platinum’ level), to capture the essence of each of these in one line. more For a printable PDF version click here. (Earlier versions are here.) 9.1.5 A 3000 word Microsoft PowerPoint presentation. more If you don’t have PowerPoint installed you can download a free viewer from Microsoft following the links provided. 9.1.6 We may be able to construct other short or alternative descriptions. These may be explored later. Click on ‘feedback’ to offer suggestions. more (later) Links to the Literature: Single Sentence Summaries of Worldviews The Bible summarises Jewish & Christian belief as: “Love God and love thy neighbour”. The Koran has a summary: “There is no god but God and Mohammed is his prophet”. We can summarise the tenets of this reasonable way in two parts also: “Knowing the dilemmas, using reason and the evidence, we choose: truth, diversity, reality, life, compassion, freedom, responsibility, equality and hope.” (The two parts are firstly the act of choice and secondly the list of core choices we make.)
