8.0.6 Reasonable Personal Responses to Global CrisesVersion 1.2 December 2016                                        (Previous Version) How does this way help with our personal response to the global and national crises we face? In the introduction, we raise a number of critical global and national issues (more). These are existential issues: they concern our survival as prosperous, stable, life affirming societies. The beliefs and values of this reasonable global way can be applied to our personal responses to these. The situations we encounter in real life are often complex, and what constitutes the correct action can still be debated, even when we have clear core values. Despite such complexity, in many situations we can confidently make reasonable choices for action based on these global beliefs and values. The personal crises many people face can also be assisted by this perspective. Just as we expect followers of traditional religions to select only the life fulfilling sections and interpretations of their traditions, so as part of this way we must consciously evaluate modern society and its norms, to determine which are worth continuing, or choosing, to adhere to and which have outlived their usefulness, if they ever were useful.  We are not apologists for all of modernity, with its shallow materialism, excessive sexualisation, political populism and planet destroying pollution. We see the need to join with others, to the extent that we are able, to act in both personal and political spheres, as discussed in Parts 6 and 7. Part of the vision of this way is that it allows us to see positive directions for personal responses to global crises. To recap, in the introduction, speaking of the crises we face, we say that: “On a personal level, aware and informed people don't know how to respond.†We list there 13 kinds of inadequate personal responses to current global and national crises. In the detailed sections we look at each of those inadequate responses in turn, to see how this reasonable global way provides guidance on our personal responses to these critical issues. We combine these detailed guidelines into a higher level conclusion, currently phrased as follows:
8.0.6Â Reasonable Personal Responses to Our Global Crises This Way provides sane guidelines in relation to personal choices, regarding our physical and mental health, relationships with our friends, lovers, families and communities, and spiritual development, which enable us to function better. Â It then provides the basis for determining our personal responses to the critical global and national issues we face. This Way counters the tendencies which block us: ●Â Â Â Â Â Â Â cultural relativism, post colonial anger and guilt, moral ambiguity, identity politics, ●Â Â Â Â Â Â Â rapid changes in science and technology, intellectual inertia, ●Â Â Â Â Â Â Â parochialism, religious dogma, ●Â Â Â Â Â Â Â alienation, political cynicism, escapism and despair. This Way shows how we develop positive analyses and make positive choices based on: ●Â Â Â Â Â Â Â reasonable, natural, rational, global beliefs that define our options for action; ●Â Â Â Â Â Â Â values that reflect our core choices based on these beliefs, which enable action.
