Some people want to compartmentalise religion, and say it cannot involve â€œeverythingâ€, that it is just one part of reality, completely separate from other parts covered by history, science or philosophy.Â Some say there are two â€˜domainsâ€™, one which covers the â€˜factual worldâ€™ of science and history and one which covers the â€˜values worldâ€™ of goodness and beauty, meaning and purpose, or in other words, religion.Â

We need to explain:

a. Religion can be the most important part of our lives.Â It is not restricted to stories about creation and sexual morality, it is part of everything we do.Â

b. If our religion is not influenced by history or science or philosophy then is based on ignorance of the best, most widely accepted, knowledge we have.

c. All fields of knowledge interact.Â If we don't take science and history into account we may be attempting the impossible or causing more harm.Â Science and history don't give us values but can tell us what works.Â On the other hand, if we have no values then there is no point doing science or history.

It is a revelation to many people that science, history, philosophy and religion can be compatible, with each one influencing the others.

Drill Down into 'Misunderstanding Areas (4 pages )

We need help (obviously).

1. We need constructive feedback from readers, whether positive or negative. Use the comments section on each web page.

2. We need help with writing, especially Parts 2, 3, 4 and 5, especially from non-Anglos, on

● the science of our origins and human nature,

● long term global history,

● identifying the good and bad of indigenous religions, the major traditional world religions, and modern responses to religion, and

● a world-wide perspective on art and culture and the media.

3. We need help to translate into other languages. We can do a first draft translation using eg Google Translate, but that needs to be checked and refined.

4. We need administrative help to establish and run local branches of a Reasonable Global Way: eg Reasonable Way Melbourne, or Reasonable Way New York!

5. We need technical help, to maintain and enhance the web site, for marketing and promotion, for legal matters, and to develop educational resources.

6. We need funding, to provide an ongoing revenue stream to maintain the organisation and its assets, and support the activities noted above.
